After releasing the first official trailer last month, Fox have started to steadily gear up for the June release of X Men: First Class, beginning with releasing domestic and international character posters for Eric and Charles… Yes, we’re all on first name terms now.
The International posters look great, bold colours strike out from the page and nicely evoke mood, with dark saturated colours for Eric opposed to the light blue glow and bright sun surrounding Charles. The large tag line (placed at the top of the poster for first viewing, and also used in the trailers) and conveniently placed pools of water immediately tackle the films first hurdle; creating a link between the old and new actors playing Professor X and Magneto (I just can’t do the whole first names thing!). It comes off as: quite stylish.
The domestic posters on the other hand are god awful, and have my vote to be included in the top 10 worst posters of all time. The design evokes no mood or excitement, with the youthful faces of McAvoy and Fassbender sloppily placed in the middle of their older character’s silhouettes, nearly cutting out McAvoy’s right eye and placing Fassbender’s head right in Magneto’s crotch. I COULD’VE DONE THIS MYSELF ON PHOTOSHOP – ED
A second trailer should be out by April and hopefully some ensemble cast posters, so keep a look out.
